MOSQUITOES

Mosquitoes are one of the deadliest animals in the world and carry many diseases such as Chikungunya, Zika Virus, Dengue, West Nile Virus, Malaria and Yellow Fever.

Mosquitoes breed rapidly when they have access to still or stagnant water. They get carried in the wind and harbour in thick foliage and other dark, still areas around homes. Their painful bites affect children, pets and adults. Reactive scratching can cause infection, distress and further sickness.

To control mosquitoes and stop the spread of diseases it is essential to eliminate any standing water, keep your grass short, apply repellent and organise a mosquito survey and treatment to your property. The Spinifex service includes an assessment/survey to determine breeding and harbourage areas, selection and application of the most suitable insecticide and equipment and further advice on what you can do. A mosquito treatment will give you relief for up to 12 weeks in favourable conditions.

ANTS

North Queensland has an abundance of ant species. Some of these have a significant pest status, while trying to co-exist in our homes and gardens. Ants create troublesome mess around carpet edges, window frames, bathrooms and benchtops, as well as causing problems by damaging gardens, attacking wiring in electrical outlets and helping themselves to food in your pantry.

In Townsville, Green Weaver Ants (green ants) can cause a painful sting, but other species, such as Ghost Ants pose little more problem than being a nuisance. With colonies being very social and structured with kings, queens, workers and reproductive ants, knowing the type of ant you have, as well as where the nests are located is paramount when determining a treatment method.

COCKROACHES

Cockroach infestations can cause many problems throughout the home and can be difficult for the homeowner to control, due to their fast breeding rate and ability to harbour in areas not readily seen. Even the cleanest looking homes can still have a cockroach infestation due to deposits of grease, sugar and other food scraps behind fridges and dishwashers, in cracks, crevices and in and around cupboards.

Cockroaches carry health risks, transporting diseases and contaminating food. The skin discarded during the moulting process is a contributor to asthma attacks in children and adults. Our technicians are trained to identify and treat cockroaches in hard-to-see and reach places.

SPIDERS

Many spiders create webs in your home around light fittings, doors, windows, eaves and other areas, which can be unsightly. For many clients, the thought of having a Huntsman or Wolf Spider around your home is also frightening.

While some species pose no threat to us, there are many of which the bites can be fatal, especially for children.

In Townsville, being bitten by a species such as the Red-Back Spider and Brown Widow Spider will mean a hospital visit and can be life threatening.

Typical harbourage areas can be identified and the risk minimised by utilising our professional experience.

SILVERFISH

Silverfish are common throughout Australia, causing damage by eating anything with a high starch content. This includes cotton fabrics, silk, paper, glues and synthetic or organic materials, leaving you to discover holes in your much loved items.

Silverfish prefer dark, quiet environments, only coming out to search for new food and moisture. They prefer to live in low traffic areas, including roof spaces, storage rooms, wall cavities and bookcases.

Construction practices involving the installation of plasterboard for walls and ceilings, in combination with insulation materials on ceilings, provide seemingly endless food sources for this pest. Treatment of silverfish requires inspecting and treating multiple areas of your home.

FLEAS

Fleas are usually detected in homes that have pets residing. Fleas can move from cats, dogs, possums and other warm-blooded animals to people, consuming blood along the way.

The female flea lays several hundred eggs at a time, concealing them in chairs, rugs, carpets and floorboards. Bites from fleas can cause a lot of irritation and can become infected from continued scratching.

Successful treatment usually includes a ‘spot’ application on the host pet, combined with a treatment of the internal and external living environments. Follow-up service is important, as insecticides do not penetrate the eggs and nymphs can emerge weeks after the initial service.

TICKS

Ticks suck the blood of humans and pets as their food source and can seriously affect the health of your children and valued animals.

Our service involves inspection and treatment of both internal and external areas of the home as required and a follow-up service to ensure the breeding cycle of ticks is interrupted.

Treatment to your pets from vet-sourced products is also essential in conjunction with our service.
